Hey Cruiser! You have no idea how many times I have looked in the gear catalogs and schemed of doing just what you drew up. I even drew one up my self back when I had a full machine shop at my disposal. Didn't think about spider gears but they would be perfect. I have an old Dodge van rear end that I just might try it on. We may be onto some thing here! Patents! Fame! Fortune!............well a fella can dream can't he? Great build, keep on posting!
(you can have the fame, I'll take the fortune!)
Cheers
Terry

As you can see from the pic in the post above, using the front portion of the Toyota case to get more reduction.
Then I have 2 choices.
1- Stay with the Toyota 4sp which will make my final ratio
4.95x2.28x2.28x6.17 =158
2- Go with the sm420 adapted to the Toyota case without the doubler which will make my final ratio
7.05x2.28x6.17= 99
Then after market gears can be used to get a lot more reduction. Only up to how much one wants to spend.
For the rest of my build it is going to be just the stock gearing.
So current final ratio is
4.95x2.28x6.17= 70
This info might come handy to some people.
Trail gear offers adapter to double the case and the lower gear sets.
Ott industeries offer the adapter for the sm420 . They also offer and adapter to make it divorced case.

Thanks Terry,
I know I will build one when the need grant it.
It will be a nice little trany for my mower.
Fame and fortune are 2 things that seem to stay very far away from me.
Good luck bud.

Thank you scraphead,
I will have to call around and find a seal.
For now it is in the garage so I can go on with my build and not worry about water or dirt getting into the bearings.
I have made the motor mounts and need to make a crossmember under the transfercase.
Then I am going to lower the frame on the rear axles.
It all looks very good so far.
The temp has been in the 30s c below , so it is kinda going a little slower waiting fot the garage to get warmed up.
Pics will be coming soon I get it all together.
Thanks.

The above pic is the sm420 bolted to the Toyota case.
The beauty of the 420 is that it is short , very low geared and heavy duty.
It bolts to most gm and chevy v8,v6, and I6 well into the 90s.
It is ideal for building a 4WD tractor.
It also easily adapted to a wide range of transfercases. Also has a pto.
The first gear is 7.05:1

This is how I am making my transfercase mount and crossmember.
Making a plate to be bolted intio the back of the case , then welded to the crossmember which will be made from a square tubing.

a lot of the older(70's-80's) GM 4x4 trucks had a long brace that went from the engine block all the way back to the side of the transfer case to help support it against twisting when you drop the clutch..I saw them a lot with manual trans and the NP205 xfer case combination..not with the automatics...FWIW..BTW-nice job on the adapter plate
