Thank you all for the nice wellcome.
I live in Newbrunswick .
As far as my plans, here is the idea.
Rearend from an old 2 Ton international (37/6) ratio.
front end is from a landcruiser with (37/10) ratio.
Motor and trans and transfer case are from an 84 Toyota truck.
straight farme with front axle swing.
So far I have been taking the rearend apart ,It is a full float rear as you might have guessed.
I wanted to use a front axle from an 84 Toyota truck too, since I had 2 of them with (40/10) ratio. I had them stored at a friend's junkyard. I went to get them last Sat and they were stolen , mostly likely stolen a night or 2 before. The damn things where in his yard for the past 2 years.
I will post more info later, meantime any comments or thoughts advices will be apprectaited.
Thank you.

Here is my first chalange I want rim #1 with the bolt holes like rim # 2 , I plan to cut the center of rim # 2 and weld to rim #1, Is there an easy way to center it. I am thinking of using a tire changer to center it. What doyou think?

Ok, all my pics and drawing will be posted on my cruiser page.
The first album is allways the most recent.
Maybe that will keep this thread here.
I have taken some shots of the rear axles all painted and assemled , but now I can't get my camera to load to my computer, I think I am going to need a new cable. So you won't see much there for a while maybe some sketches.
So I am going to start working and the rims. Hopefully things will work out.
I might try and bolt the axles to a landcruiser frame that I have . This frame is all complete with evrything working good. That way I can test things before I start on making a frame for it. How do you think of the idea.
Vic.

I have made some progress.
Rims changed from 5 bolt narrow 17" rims to 5 bolt 22.5" 10" wide rims that will take tubeless tires.
I have 2 used tires 11X 22.5 installed ,42" hight. They will be changed later with new ones.
The rear axle is fitted to the frame , by cutting 2 notches of the frame , they will
welded to the frame once everything is in place.
Also I have the rear housings sanded and painted.,rims, and rear wheel hubs sanded and painted.
Next will be the drive train and the front axle , which I will start doing this coming weekend.
I am waiting on the rims to dry then I will post some pics.
JoeJ I might get you to post some pic ,If you don't mind.
The whole drivetrain is going to be from a Toyota FJ40 which I might change later to 22r truck drivetrain if it is too much power for me
Also the front axle is and FJ40 one which has 3.70:1 ratio, I will be looking for another third with 5.29 or 4.11 to get a decent tire size for the front and a better
ratio.
This all for now. You all be good.

Tomorrow I will start getting the front axle installed to the frame.
I am using a 3 Ton bus hub and spindle for my pivot. I have to wait till monday to get the inner hub bearing.
So far I have a plate cut from wood to use as template for the real steel plate that will be cut and welded to the front axle and the hub.
The spindle will be welded to the frame .
So far everything adds up very good and the Sag power steering looks like what I will be using for my steering gear box.
I will keep all the other steering parts original ( meaning , arms tierods).
So there will be some more pics added soon I get started.
What do think?
Give me your thoughts.

Very nice start...Heavy duty frame! Gives me motivation to get mine done. You might want to start a new topic, I had no idea you were building a tractor given the topic title.
Seeing if I can link some of your pictures from your site...
edit: removed IMG attempts...
Edit: I have come to the conclusion that the IMG tag is broken here. the ".com" is always stripped from the "http://byfiles.storage.live.com" where the pictures are. Pictures are fine, the IMG tag of this site is not. Maybe it doesn't like the 4 item domain name.
one trick is to use tinyurl... Edit: guess not, the ".com" is stripped here too! what's the deal with that?

Thank you neojunk . I am actually surprised to see myself get this far in this short time , while working 7 days a week , but I have been lucky so far.
I don't know what is going on with posting pics. I can't post pics to any of the forums. I wish someone could post some for me. That would be great.
I want to post as many pics as possible, so people can correct my mistake before
it is too late.
I have few more pics dealing with the front axle in my camera . I will post them
tomorrow.
Thank you agin.

Vic, here are most of the pics. You can add in any appropriate text
This is the axle mounting (should have cropped this one too ... oops).
The old wheels:

Center Cut out:

New Rim Welded and Painted:

Rear Hub Painted:

Rear Axle Painted:

I'll put the next ones in another post. Don't want to risk losing this.
Great pics for me BTW, I have a set of very similar hubs and wanted to do a similar wheel update (went through all sorts of agro getting tires on the old 20" split rims).
cheers, Andrew

Here's a few of the pictures of the axle mounted in the frame:

Think that's got them all.
cheers, Andrew
FWIW, I cropped them first to get rid of superfluous background stuff, then had to resize a bit smaller to get under 50kb. All of these are smaller than Bob's one polisher pic !

First, a big Thank you to Andrew for posting these pics.
There will be some delay as far as posting the next set of pics , because one of the bearing for front axle pivot hub won't make it to town till Wed or Thur.
Meantime The plate will be welded to the hub.
The front axle housings will be painted once the sanding done.
So if everything goes good and I do get that bearing. This coming Sat I will start working on mounting my draivetran on the frame.

Great work. Judging from some of your pictures this tractor is going to be one serious workhorse. My only concern would be the leverage acting on your front axle pivot. Its fairly high above the axle centerline and its going to have withstand a lot of stress. Aside from the vertical loads it will also have to control axle wrap and such. I wonder if something like a pair of long radius rods like that on a ford could help. The only trouble is arc of the radius rods would conflict with your fixed axle pivot bearing. Oh well, keep up the good work. I look forward to more updates on your project.

Believe me that was my greatest concern too. I must have had 10 different ways
of doing this, but after dawing them , evryone had a weekness.
So finally I choose the 3 Ton spindle. This might still prove to be a weekness, but I might have a solution for it , or maybe someone else might come up with one.
Thanks for the input.
Keep them comming.

Vic, no problem. I suggest that you put all the new material in this topic rather than the other one. That way the titles right and you can post pictures. Maybe Joe or Dan could move the other posts over here (after the initial "hello" ones)?
cheers, Andrew

I moved all the posts from the welcome area & placed them here. Now the whole tractor build can go on from here. Good work on the tractor Vic! Look forward to more.

Vic, just use this topic (I humbly suggest). You should be able to upload (post) pictures to this topic. Use the [img] http://www.machinebuilders.net/skins/default/forum_images/po st_button_image_upload.gif[/url] icon. Pics need to be under 50k which isn't too hard if you crop them first to just have the relevant bits, then resize to a width of 450-500 or so. Save as a JPEG at about 75%. There's a topic on posting pictures at the top of the new members area.
I'm going to be watching this one .
cheers, Andrew
PS. Oh BTW, how *did* you end up centering the 5 bolt centers on the 22.5 rims? I have to do exactly the same thing sometime. And did you narrow the rear end (or were trucks just smaller back then)?
PPS. Daniel ... thanks for doing the hard part!

To Answer few quetions.
The color ,
Once finishd , the whole thing will be sand blasted and repainted. I will do it democraticly by taking votes. I just used what paint I had so I can keep going with it. So in the next post , I will post a drawing of a tractor, copy it and paint it whichever way you like then repost it.
The rims I had a problem using the tire changer, because they are not the same thickness and because I wanted the 5 bolt center welded in the inside of the 22.5 rim. It could have been done,
but I would need to cut another center and tack it to the outside and use it to center and weld the other center to the inside.
It was a lot cheeper to get the center turned down and the rim bored out so it is dead on fit.
I had the machine shop do the turing and boring out, which I must say was worth at under $150 for both rims. Then is just a matter of welding them. Now I know I can take this on the road without having problems.
The rearend is not that narrow , but becauce of the dual wheels it just look narrow with one wheel missing.
Tomorrow I will start fitting the draivetrain and front axle to the frame. I have recieved the bearing and everything fits good so far. I am having a hard time finding a hub seal . The seal # is 455547 , if anybody could help, would appreciated.
